What Caught My Eye: Scotch Tape

Just recently I had dinner at the Banna Leaf in Podium…for dessert I had their ______.

As I was eating it, I noticed this! SCOTCH TAPE which was used to keep the sides of the banana cups from separating.

Functionally and production-wise I understand this. The mixture is put in as a liquid and eventually it firms up (not sure but probably through steaming or cooling). So you need the holder (in this case the banana cups to remain stable – hence the use of scotch tape. So okay fine I get it. BUT what I can’t let pass is that it was served to me with all this scotch tape attached! It’s just bad form! And it cheapens this dish.

To some degree the more discriminating side of me also wants to point out that scotch tape uses industrial adhesive which I seriously doubt is food-grade. Even if someone tells me the scotch tape didn’t actually touch the food, but it was attached to a permeable organic material (the banana leaf… so go figure!)
